Reduction of unilateral high condylar fracture with a gunning splint- case report
Keywords:Intermaxillary fixation, gunning splint, condylar fracture
Anatomic reduction of condylar fracture of an atrophic mandible is a challenging scenario due to reduced blood supply and absence of teeth in the mandible. Fracture fixation by closed reduction is the desired treatment plan considering the age and medical condition. For this condition, closed reduction can be achieved by providing gunning splint in mandible which functions as a bite block, enabling maxillomandibular fixation and reduction of fractured segments. In this case report we have highlighted the usage of gunning splint in the mandible for closed reduction of high condylar fracture thus improving prognosis of the patient.
